Laser Fleet Update

Well it was a beautiful weekend in Annapolis for our 2008 Laser Crab Claw Regatta.   40 Lasers (36 full rigs and 4 radials) competed in three races on Saturday.  The conditions were challenging with the breeze was up and down all day and very shifty.   Eventually the wind died out completely and the RC towed everyone back to the club, where we enjoyed crabs, dinner and frosty beverages.

Sunday the breeze just did not arrive, so we abandoned for the day after an on-shore postponement.

Mike Matan from Cedar Point Yacht Club in CT was our champion.  He also received the Super Gas Guzzler (for furthest traveled) and First Master honors.  Bob Tan (SSA) placed second, followed by James McKenna (SSA) in third.  Meredith Dodd (SSA) had a great regatta winning the third race and placing 6th overall as well as winning the First Woman trophy.  Matt Scheone (SSA) was our first Junior and 8th overall.

In the radial fleet the ladies dominated.  Lauren Schoene (SSA) placed first, followed by Danielle Prior in second.

Earlier this week David Hinckle, Ric Bauer and Mike Dale completed work on the laser rack to make way for the pool project. Here's a photo of the new slot rack which holds 13 lasers and is located along the fence near the junior shed several FBYC Laser sailors made the trip to SSA's Sunshine Open. The 51 boat fleet included Alain Vincey, John Hubbard and James Jacobs. The breezy conditions were challenging both days in which 5 races were completed. Complete results can be found on the district website
